Ike Williams vs. Beau Jack I Ticket 1948 |
|
|
With the Democratic convention in Philadelphia, a crowd of 12,952 went to Shibe Park (home of the Phillies) to watch Ike Williams, of Trenton, NJ, knock out Beau Jack, of Augusta, GA, in the sixth round of their world lightweight title fight on July 12, 1948. Beau Jack started fast but Williams took over in the third and it was one-way traffic after that. Williams hung Jack up in a corner in the sixth and pounded away until the ref stopped it 33 seconds into the round. This stubless ticket is from that fight and features head shots of both Hall-of-Fame champions. In three subsequent fights, Ike went 2-0-1 against the so-called former "Georgia shoe shine boy."
