Briscoe vs. Luis Vinales II Poster 1972 |

This 22x28 cardboard poster is from Bennie Briscoe's hectic seventh-round knockout over Luis Vinales on Oct. 11, 1972, at the Arena in West Philadelphia. Suffering from hepatitis six months earlier, Briscoe had dropped a disputed 10-round decision to the club-fighting Vinales in Scranton, PA. He needed to beat Vinales to secure a shot at middleweight champ Carlos Monzon. He did not look good doing it, but recovered in four weeks and gave Monzon a long afternoon during their Nov. 11, 1972 title fight in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Journeyman light-heavyweight Eddie "Red Top" Owens, of New England, upset Richie Kates via K0 in the Oct. 11 semifinal.
