Gil Turner vs. Kid Gavilan Ticket 1952 |

This mint ticket is from the world welterweight title fight between champion Kid Gavilan and challenger Gil Turner on July 7, 1952, at Municipal Stadium in Philadelphia. The crowd of more than 39,000 fans was the largest ever to see a world welterweight title fight until 1980 when the first Leonard-Duran fight in Montreal drew more. Turner battled Gavilan on even terms through 10 rounds (two judges each had it 5-5 in rounds, the ref had it 6-4 Gavilan). In the 11th, Gavilan finally wore Turner down and stopped him.
